Visions from the Desert
This series is the result of spending 6 weeks touring the Southwest United States in the early fall of 2024. I’ve always been drawn to wild and twisting shapes of nature, subtle abstractions created by the elements, and the deserts of the Southwest are some of the most wild and abstracted landscapes I’ve ever seen. The way the juniper and blackbrush would tangle with the flowing formations of sandstone beneath windswept skies simply stole my heart. A lot has changed in the land that first inspired these paintings, but that only goes to reinforce the central idea to this series: like the rocks and the trees we are shaped by the land we stand on, and are nothing without it. “Visions from the Desert” is a reminder to recognize the shared dirt beneath all our feet, it is a call for unity and resilience.
